Lot 0096
H Ruddick Boston, presentation sword given to Captain John M Thatcher Co. 13th Vt presented by the Citizens of Barre VT Sept 13th 1862- this predates Thatcher's official commission by 10 days, which is probably why the company is left blank, Thatcher would go on to lead Co. I of the 13th, this lot also included is CDV of Thatcher. This sword has wonderful foliate engravings in the brass scabbard mountings and a scene of camp life with cannons on the reverse of the throat, it retains it's original sword knot and appears to be in excellent overall condition with only minor pitting and slight drying to the leather scabbard. It is 37" overall and is patterned on the Model of 1850 infantry sword. The sword is accompanied with a CDV image of Thatcher.
