Lot 0146
Massive, 38.25 Troy ounce, 12-3/8" high sterling golf cup trophy, won by J.M. Sellers at a tournament held at the Chicago Golf Club in 1911. The CGC -- the oldest 18-hole course in the United States -- was one of the founding members of the USGA in 1894, and today is considered the fifth most exclusive golf courses in the world. There are presently only 120 members, and to become a member requires that a current member invite someone to membership. There are several trophies in this auction from the same collection -- all sterling silver, some from the Chicago Golf Club.
