Lot 0249
A Chuco ceramic tablet, c. 13th Century, beautifully painted on one side with alternating rows of standing human figures and four-legged animals, painted in crème, red brown and white slip. Chuco was a local center where offerings were left for the 'God of Water'in the belief they would bring more rainfall, strong crops and a better harvest. They were secreted in caves and the imagery was meant to be seen by denizens of a supernatural world. 16 ½ in x 11 ½ in (40.6 x 29.1 cm). Mottled mineral deposits and mounted on a custom metal stand. Ex Arte Xibalba Gallery, FL.
