Attibuted to Anthony Quervelle (Paris/American, 1789–1856), circa 1820-1830. A Classical carved mahogany sofa having a convex crestrail with foliate and rosette carved, scrolled ends, the scrolled foliate carved arms enclosing the padded upholstered sides, back and seat covered in crimson damask style fabric over the seatrail with mahogany panels and rosette blocks, raised on cornucopia carved bracketed hairy paw feet. Apparently not marked. Approximate height 33.25", width 87, seat depth 21.5", seat height 15.5".
Wear commensurate to age and use. Abrasions to wood overall, with some losses. Losses to finish overall. Repaired breaks/cracking to backs of arms. Some cracking to frame at back legs. Some losses to feet. Scratches to frame, with some seam separation. Some minor water spots. Upholstery has been pulled back from arms in spots. Overall stable. Could benefit from light professional restoration.
