Chinese Ming period blue and white porcelain jar. The underglazed bulbous body decorated with hand-painting in cobalt blue, depicted high rank officer and attendants traversing through a landscape scenes. Auspicious geometrical pattern and floral motifs banded to the neck under the rim. The shoulder bordered with mythical creature between scrolling clouds, and wavy LiShui water on the foot.
The underside left unglazed, with pale-creme base spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
Provenance: Consigned by the heir of M Nye, these items have records that were purchased from the estate of "The Goods & Chattels of Martha Mace". Located in New Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania; these records are dated Oct 1866.
