John Oates (born April 7, 1948) is an American rock, R&B and soul musician, guitarist, and songwriter, best known as half of the duo Hall & Oates, with Daryl Hall. Oates' main role in the duo was guitarist, and he also co-wrote many of the Top 10 songs that they recorded, including "Sara Smile", "She's Gone", "Out of Touch", and many others. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Hall & Oates.
