Lot 0110
Amerique Septentrionale. Maker: Victor Levasseur. Date: Ca. 1845. Size: sheet 14.5" x 20", printed area 11" x 17", Map image 8" x 7". The Atlas Universel Illustre by Victor Lavasseur is one of the last decorative atlases ever produced. The unique style of richly embellished representative imagery, surrounding a smaller hand colored map, is a high point in 19th century map production. The map itself depicts Texas as a republic. The US occupies British Columbia to latitude 54 - 40, and Alaska is Amerique Russe. This map frames and displays beautifully. A fine example of an iconic map.?(A) Minor spotting in margins, Light creasing along top edge.
