Details: 4Pcs. This lot comprises antique tools for the care and repair of antique firearms.
Contained in this lot:
Two antique iron hand vises typical of gunsmiths and tinkers during the Civil War era. These are of similar size and design; a 4" long clamping vise with a wing nut and bolt that tightens/loosens the hinged clamp. Each opens approx 1" wide.
Two antique wisk and pick sets for cleaning the touchhole and pan of flintlock rifles. These are of similar design and purpose, but slightly different lengths and materials. One is made of 2" brass wire links, bent into hoops at each end to link each segment, resulting in a 15" long chain. The other is similar, but has brass wire twisted around the central brass wire of each link, and is 18" in length. Both have a small wisk broom on one end and a brass pick at the other. Both appear to be original, however one may have been soldered in more contemporary times to prevent the links from disconnecting.
This lot is from the estate of a very well-known and well-respected lifetime Civil War collector in Upstate New York. Worth Auctions will feature scores of antique firearms, edged weapons, paintings, and unusual items over the next few months. A selection of post-1898 firearms by major manufacturers will also be featured.
National Book Auctions will also sell the thousands of rare and collectible volumes which cover nearly every notable personage and event of the Civil War including regimental histories.
Condition / Notes: These antique gun care tools show nicely, with mild to moderate age and wear, some oxidation; and in the case of the wisks, some loose or lost bristles.
