Details: This lot consists of an engraved antique powder horn from our Civil War Estate Collection.
The scrimshaw on this impressive piece features an inscription that reads "Abel Mason Esq." and includes a map of the Delaware Valley area from Norfolk to Salem NJ. Also included are a compass, cities such as Philidelphia [sic] and Baltimore, and waterways from the James River to the Delaware Bay. The horn, with an overall length of approx. 19", is approx. 9.5" around at the widest point, and is decorated with brass tacks. It also features a carved ebony and bone stopper on the small end, and a inlaid bone and wood end piece on the large end.
This lot is from the estate of a very well-known and well-respected lifetime Civil War collector in Upstate New York.
