Details: 3 Pcs. This lot comprises three antique fly fishing reels.
No.1: Antique English mahogany and brass Nottingham fly reel. 4" diameter reel. Brass foot and spine. Brass or copper crank handles.
"Historically, back at the turn of the century, in ENGLAND, there was a place called Nottingham Forest, where beautiful mahogany trees grew. The local wood carvers used the mahogany wood to carve all sorts of things, from duck decoys to fishing reels. This reel was of that era. We know it was carved before World War I because with the outbreak of hostilities, brass became unavailable as it all was used for shell casings. Thus, came the name "NOTTINGHAM FLY REEL". - antiqueflyreel.com
No. 2: Antique wood Nottingham-style fly reel. Possibly non-original arbor nut/spool release. Wood appears to have been refinished. Unusual drilled holes in spool center, inconsistent with typical Nottingham fly reels. Patina on brass foot, spine and crank handles look consistent with Sherwood reels of that era. Reel diameter measures 4 1/2"
No. 3: Antique brass/nickel Allcocks crank-style fly reel. 3" diameter reel. Beautiful condition. Counter balanced crank.
Condition / Notes: These antique fly reels show nicely. The larger wood reel appears to have been refinished, and had the spool release replaced with a more contemporary arbor nut. Otherwise, these reels have mild signs of age and wear. The brass Allcocks reel is particularly handsome.
