Details: This lot consists of three Historical Medallions from our Civil War Estate Collection.

The 1876 United States International Exhibition medallion, measuring 3" in diameter, was made from pressed Black Walnut by the Ornamental Wood Company of Philadelphia. This Centennial celebration of American Independence was Open From May 10th to Nov. 10, 1876, in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia.

The bronze medallion was authorized by resolution of Congress on March 9, 1848, to honor the US-Mexican War hero Major General Winfield Scott. This rare medal, measuring 3.5" in diameter, features a left facing Bust of Scott on the obverse and is marked C.C. Wright F. and S. Ellis Del. The reverse features vignettes of six battlefields of the conflict around a central image of Mexico City. Oxidation and light verdigris.

The 1798 Irish rebellion leader, Theobald Wolfe Tone, is featured on the copper medallion struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. This piece measures 2.5" in diameter.

This lot is from the estate of a very well-respected lifetime Civil War collector in Upstate New York. Worth Auctions will feature scores of antique firearms, edged weapons, paintings, and unusual items over the next few months. A selection of post-1898 firearms by major manufacturers will also be featured.

Condition / Notes: The bronze and copper medallions are beautifully preserved, showing some signs of age and circulation that may include patina and abrasions. The medal pressed in wood is intact and exhibits cracking around the rim with a split along the grain near the base of the obverse relief.
