First and rare Italian edition. The story of Mercury or Hermes Trismegistus is already present in the tradition of ancient Egypt which was likened to the god Thoth, the scribe of Osiris, the inventor of the sciences. To him they were awarded numerous alchemical texts known in the Greek world - Egyptian, and his name was added to the attribute Trismegistus or "thrice great." His mystical precepts were collected in Poimandres, a treatise on the creation. From the author's name, this particularly esoteric philosophy is called "hermetic" to mean a perfect closure. The text of Pymander, was known only since the Renaissance. Its discovery was one of the most important facts regarding the development of alchemy. The doctrine contained in the text, after the Greek alchemical environments - Egyptians, penetrated in the humanities, and was the origin of a new Magical philosophy, interesting characters like Pico della Mirandola and Aurelio Augurelli. This, however, was only published in 1548 on request of the publisher Carlo Lenzoni, one of the most committed intellectuals in the Florentine cultural events of his time.
