A FINE CASED PAIR OF FRENCH DUELING PISTOLS, CIRCA 1850
by the famous gunsmith Gastinne Renette Rond Point des Champs Elysees, Paris
The pair are classic French form, barrels are 10 inches long, signed in gold, "Gastinne Renette and are Numbered 1 and 2 also in gold, locks and mounts with original satin gray finish, fluted burl walnut stocks. The pair of pistols are in excellent condition in their original fitted case with all of their original accessories. Legend has it that these guns were in the famous collection of the President of Mexico, Porfirio Diaz, the owner's plaque on the top of lid is finely period inscribed with the initials "P.D." which is believed to be "Porfirio Diaz", and is similar to many monogrammed fire arms, known to have been in the President's collection.
