Edwardian Mahogany and Burl Writing Tableearly 20th century, of kidney form, the banded top with a partial spindled brass gallery, above a conforming frieze fitted with a single drawer, joined by turned, fluted and graduated uprights to a concave shelf with like gallery, raised on toupie feet ending in brass caps and casters, stamped "Gillow & Co.".
h. 30-1/2", w. 40", d. 21"
In overall good condition with some past restorations, shrinkage, light wear and normal indications of age and use. The upper brass gallery exhibits slight misalignment of two elements at a joint. The ends are straight, it is unclear whether a seam or break. The lower brass gallery is slightly misshapen at parts. The color of wood differs between the top and the lower shelf. The former appears to have been over-sprayed with finish, and exhibits some past veneer repairs that have been filled and colored in. There are straight veneer tears, about 4" long, just behind each front leg, presumably over a seam in the underlying wood. Tight and structurally sound. Drawer slides freely.
