Four sketches on Maui done in the 1950's by a well-known Canadian artist. The four views capture different aspects of the island paradise.
Wes Irwin (1897-1976) was one of the earliest proponents of Modernism in Alberta. He was a founding member of the Alberta Society of Artists, and its second president. A Canadian, he studied at Columbia in New York and traveled extensively. As these drawings of Maui demonstrate, he had a great talent for capturing the essence of places.
