Lot consists of an Original life preserver ring recovered from the wreckage of the Ocean Liner "Andrea Doria" of the Italian Line, where the home port was Genoa, Italy. On July 25, 1956 as the Andrea Doria was approaching the coast ofNantucket, Massachusetts heading for New York City when it collided with the "MS Stockholm" of the Swedish American Line and became one of history's most infamous maritime disasters. This life ring was recovered the day after by Alan Ades, who wasa Navigator and Operations Officer aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Yakutat WAVP 380. Included is a typed signed letter from Mr. Ades. The ring is approx. 30" diameter, painted in red and white with rope affixed to the circumference, andstenciled with "Andrea Doria / Genova" in black. Show normal wear throughout. Excellent piece of maritime history.
