Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. A hand-woven textile fragment featuring a register of stylized birds above a wave band, in chocolate brown on a natural cream hued ground, with a fringe border underscoring this nature-inspired iconography. Mounted in an attractive shadow box frame. Size: Textile itself measures 5.875" L x 12.5" W (14.9 cm x 31.8 cm); framed 9.75" L x 20.75" W (24.8 cm x 52.7 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private collection of Charles and Rita Colbert acquired in the 1960's

A fragment with some loose weaving and discoloration as shown. Iconography mostly complete, but two birds missing and faint losses to a few others. Frame overall very good save one small nick, rings for suspension on verso.
