The title of this circa 1900 etching is SHORE TO SHORE. At first, it appears to be a simple view of a family crossing the water in a skiff, but when one reads the poem beneath, the symbolism of the composition becomes clear. It is a metaphor for the journey of life!; Here is the poem: In CHILDHOOD'S hour, with careless joy, Upon the stream we glide: With YOUTH's bright hopes we gaily speed To reach the other side.; MANHOOD looks forth with careful glance TIME steadily plies the oar, While OLD AGE calmly waits to hear The keel upon the shore.; The print is matted in acid-free materials and installed in a black wooden frame with Dutch ripple detailing on the inner and outer edges. The print is in good condition. The frame has some scuffs but has been touched-up and looks acceptable.; Frame size is 21"x25"
