Available for sale is an outstanding important and historic carved comb showing the effigy figure of a Black Bear from the Seneca Native American Indians. The comb dug from the historic and famous site of Boughton Hill that the Seneca named Gandagaro, which was inhabited from circa 1670-1687. The piece was recovered at this site along with many full copper pots and other effigy relics. The piece shows a bone material believed to be from the thigh bone of a Black Bear. The artifact is carved from one solid piece showing two pillars with a standing Black Bear side profile with six pointed pillars, making the shape of a useful comb. Provenance: From the Morris Collection and the Frisinger Collection of Rochester, New York. Measures 1.5" x 2.75". Displayed in a glass top black riker case. Marked on the back of comb, "VICTOR NY".
