    This is the stated First Edition of the Kwame Anthony Appiah & Henry Louis Gates, Jr. reference work, "Africana, The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience" (2095 pages), published by Basic Books - Civitas in 1999. This large and heavy hardcover is in very good to near fine condition. The only flaw to the dust jacket is shallow edge wear. It has no stains or fade, and no tears of note. The flaps, with the price not clipped, are in the same condition. The only notable flaws to the book are curl to the bottom outside corners of the last group of pages, and one light stain to the outside edges. The cover is clean, unfaded, unstained, and with no tears. The pages are, other than the above-mentioned stain, clean throughout the book, with all text and images as new. There are no page tears. There are no stamps or other attachments. There is no writing. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. The accompanying pages are accurate reflections of the book condition.
