A Marlin First Model Deringer concealed in a Sewing box. 22 caliber, single shot pistol. Part round/part octagon barrel swings sideways for loading and is stamped "J. M. MARLIN/NEW HAVEN, CT." on the top. Brass frame. No serial number. Circa 1863-1870. Concealed within a rosewood veneer box, rectangular with pincushion top, opening to a removable pin cushion, thimbles, and ammunition. Pistols shows wear commensurate with age and use. Box also shows wear, some missing veneer, and is lacking escutcheon. Barrel 2 1/4" long, 4" long overall. Sewing box5 3/4 x 2 3/4" high. ESTIMATE $300-500
