Lot 0061
Scarce 1848 Mitchell map of Asia. Vivid original hand coloring. Inset of Australia. Shows the entire breadth of Asia. Mitchell maps of the mid-to-late 1840s were some of the better maps produced in America during that period. Mild toning to three edges (common for Mitchell maps of this period). From the exceedingly scarce 1848 edition of Mitchell’s New Universal Atlas. One tiny spot, else very good plus. 12.125 x 15.

Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1790-1860) was an American geographer born in Connecticut. He worked as an educator before turning to publishing geography textbooks and maps.
