A late Victorian diamond and plique-a-jour enamel dragonfly brooch. The circular and rose-cut diamond body, with circular ruby cabochon eyes and plique-a-jour enamel wings. Principal diamond estimated 0.35ct, I-J colour, P1 clarity. Length 4.3cms. Weight 4.9gms. With Maison Mertens case.

Condition

  • Overall condition fair. Surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Re-enameling has probably been carried out.
  • Some wear/loss of enameling to wing edges.
  • One wing appears to have been damaged and has some movement.
  • Diamonds fairly well matched.
  • Principal diamond bright and lively.

  • Principal diamond assessed within the limitations of the setting.
  • Rubies medium pinkish-red, well matched.
  • Stones in good condition with minor abrasions.
