Description
A Rudolf Marcuse Bronze Figure of a Dog with Johann Heinrich von Zugel Oil on Canvas Portrait of a Dog, circa 1920 Marks to bronze: RUDOLF MARCUSE, H NOACK, BERLIN FRIEDENAU Painting signed: H. Zugel 12-3/8 inches high (31.4 cm) (bronze) 16-1/2 inches high x 17-1/78 inches wide (oil on canvas) Property from the Estate of Charles Schalebaum A contemporary label to the reverse of the dog portrait attributes the identity of the dog as that of Moritz, owned by Manfried von Richtofen (Red Baron). This claim is dubious as the dog in the portrait bears only tangential similarities to known photographs of Moritz. HID04901242017
Condition
Canvas is not framed and exhibits edgewear with light flaking to pigments, some surface scratching to canvas, red paint splotch to dog's neck to bronze.
