Edward M. Stephenson (American, 1896-1987), "Pygmalion and Galatea" - 1966, pastel on paper, signed and dated in ink to lower left recto. A figural work depicting the myth of Pygmalion, the sculptor who fell in love with his sculpture of a beautiful woman, who was ultimately brought to life by the goddess Aphrodite. Framed approximately 27" x 20.75", sight approximately 23.5" x 17.5". Note: Stevenson was an illustrator, comic, and landscape artist, trained at the Arts Students League in New York City. His works were featured in the Saturday Evening Post.
