**First Time At Auction**

North America, Native American, found in Alabama, USA, Woodland Period, ca. 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. A pair of large, impressive greenstone celts, one more green and the other (smaller) grey-green. They may have taken as much as 500 man hours to chip from a source and polish into shape. Celts like these were placed into graves as grave goods, sometimes placed across the collarbone of the honored dead. Size: 2.5" W x 12.25" H (6.4 cm x 31.1 cm)

Condition

Both have light surface scratching. The larger has a short series of shallow, incised scratches on one side that are later in date than the piece's manufacture.
