DESCRIPTION: Superb early 19th century sterling silver sugar cellar by Pierre Phillippe Rosseau. Features a lid with a figurine of a greyhound with its paw above a shield enveloped with engraved floral motif and Greco meander designs. The crystal fluted bowl insert is held by sterling reticulated scrolled rococo floral motif. Rests atop three arching legs with animal hooved motif feet an tetes des lions along the top of each leg. Base is further decorated with acanthus leaves and centered by a finial surrounded with verdant designs. Finished with three spherical balled feet on the bottom. Finished with reticulations enveloping the crystal insert that holds up and array of sugar spoons. Marked with Pierre-Phillippe Rosseau makers marks, a Paris 950/1000 silver purity mark, along with an array of guarantee marks and governmental department marks, congruent with early 19th century French silver.
