Donated By: Donick Cary, Emmy-Award winning writer/producer (Letterman /Simpsons / Parks and Recreation /Silicon Valley)

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A mesmerizing buff terracotta pectoral mask depicting a humanoid visage with an avian beak and pointed deer ears - further decorated with an elaborate headdress, ear ornaments, nose ring, and labret. To the Maya, deer were immensely symbolic animals. In addition to being the largest animals that the Maya hunted, deer are also mentioned in the Popol Vuh, the Maya creation story. Some Classic Maya depictions of the ball game even have representations of the deer hunt, with ballplayers dressed as deer. Deer heads, both real and artificial were and are still today worn by Maya in dances and ritual parades. Birds as sky animals were associated with the celestial realm - the sun, the moon, even Venus - where they were believed to serve as messengers between humankind and the deities. A magnificent figural pectoral mask depicting a transformative state - wild and animalian! Custom stand. Size: 6.375" H (16.2 cm); 8.875" H (22.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Making music happen since 2009…

Today, Musack's mission is to give kids and teens a voice through music by providing guitars, drums, and support for music teachers - wherever the need arises.

But back in 2009, Emmy-Award winning writer/producer Donick Cary (Letterman /Simpsons / Parks and Recreation /Silicon Valley) began Musack with a simple vision - raise money to fund musical programs for his hometown high school on Nantucket Island. After a rash of teen suicides on the island, Donick thought about how he and his friends got through their teen years. Music.

Musack continues to make music happen around the world with support from people like you. All lots offered for sale in today’s fundraising auction have been donated by celebrities, non-celebrities, and local businesses. Help us help our kids - bid high, bid often!
