LEE/ROSE NO. 155-X-1 CUP PLATE, colorless, major variation with cavetto design similar to No. 155, but shoulder divided into eight panels, each featuring a seven-ray fan, plain rim with rope underneath. Extremely rare, not listed in AGCP, Bilane recorded only one example, originally in the Parker collection, bought by Abraham, then Wood to Marble. Probably Midwestern. 1830-1845. 3" D.
Near proof with only some light flaking/mold roughness to rim, none of which affects the profile.
Literature: Parallels Lee/Rose - American Glass Cup Plates, p. 139. Bilane - Cup Plate Discoveries Since 1948, p. 10 records variation.
Provenance: Collection of Jim Lawrence and Denver Smallwood, Chattanooga, TN.
Catalogue Note: This is a major variation which should have a separate Lee/Rose number. It is the first example we have seen and no sales records have been located.
