Lot 1847
LEE/ROSE NO. 168-B-X CUP PLATE, colorless, major variation with 34 bull's-eye scallops like No. 167. Unrecorded, possibly unique. Midwestern. 1830-1840. 3 9/16" D.
Near proof with only three scallops very lightly tipped and minor roughness to a slight fin.
Literature: Parallels Lee/Rose - American Glass Cup Plates, p. 144.
Provenance: Collection of Jim Lawrence and Denver Smallwood, Chattanooga, TN.
Indianapolis Antiques Mall, 4/84.
Catalogue Note: We could locate no other examples of this plate and believe it to be illustrated here for the first time. Rose speculated that a 34 bull's-eye rim was employed in the No. 168 series, however, no example had come to light by the time Bilane published his Cup Plate update in 1971.

Condition
