Lot 0102

An important and unique piece of Philadelphia PA history. Old antique photograph collage featuring famous American opera singer, Madam Nordica. Seven portraits of noble figures surround the singer; including U.S. President Grover Cleveland and Queen Victoria. Photographs are cabinet cards which have been strategically trimmed to position artistically inside the window mounts on the mount board (see scan of backside). Title at bottom reads: "Madame Nordica, a Famous Patron of "Old Bookbinders". "Old Bookbinders" is recognized today as one of the longest running seafood restaurants in Philadelphia and was noted for its history of prominent patrons. This artistic composition of photos is tastefully matted with titles for each image and almost certainly hung in the restaurant prior to its closing--serving to notify patrons of the celebrities who dined their before them. Approximate exterior dimensions of mount board are 19-1/2" x 26-1/2". unframed. Condition: light soiling, damp stain across bottom of windo mountboard, foxing spots, light corner crease to Cleveland name card. Please see photos for additional condition review.
