Magna Graecia, South Italy, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A stunning blackware ceramic vessel, the body of a rounded, near spherical form sitting on a flattened ring base, with a loop handle attached to the shoulder, a tubular neck, and a substantive rim. Though the form is simple and presents a monochrome finish, it’s the subtle decorative details such as the three ribbed bands adorning the flat rim and the pair of incised wheel marks on the shoulder that add further aesthetic interest. Size: 4.25" W x 4.375" H (10.8 cm x 11.1 cm)
Provenance: private Orange County, California USA collection acquired before 2000
