Two-stage smoothbore steel barrel with cannon muzzle and chiseled band between stages, indistinct maker's mark stamped on top flat, near breech, circa 1720. Finely engraved and relief chiseled steel miquelet lock featuring springs with scalloped edges, dovetailed serrated frizzen liner, gold lined pan and touch hole. Plain walnut stock of Catalan form, decorated with finely engraved inlaid panels of pierced silver, decorated with shaded scrolls and acanthus leaves. Silver sideplate is cut out around steel belt hook, which terminates with a pierced heart. Butt cap, barrel band, and solid sideplate all of silver and deeply engraved with designs on a stippled ground, buttcap features a hunting horn, spear and a cannon. Engraved steel trigger guard and replaced wooden ramrod with bone cap. Excellent condition, barrel has been cleaned and shows some wear and light freckling. Lock spring needs adjustment, as cock has no tension when cocked back, lock retains a grey patina with some light wear. Stock very good with a few light marks from use and minor imperfections due to age. Silver is polished, steel trigger guard shows wear to engraving and retains a grey patina. Overall length is 12". This example is ornately decorated and adorned with extraordinary mounts with exquisite engraving, certainly one of the finest Spanish miquelet pistols in existence.
