Circa 1720. Twin two-stage smoothbore steel barrels, top barrel engraved on flats of octagonal portion and has an indistinct gold circular maker's mark on the tang. Barrels are held together by a steel barrel band fitting over muzzles. Steel miquelet lock with engraved cock face and pan face. The pan features a sliding steel drawer that allows the top barrel to be fired, then the bottom barrel, or both barrels simultaneously. Pierced and engraved steel panels decorate both sides of wrist, around the top barrel's tang, and on the butt. Single curved steel trigger and engraved steel triggerguard with flower finial on rear tang. Left side of stock features a serpentine steel belt hook. Plain walnut full length stock with forend extending to muzzles on both sides, between barrels. Forends are decorated with incised lines, right side fitted with an ebony ramrod. Excellent condition, all steel surfaces retain a light grey patina with some light wear and scattered marks from use. Lock functions well. Stock very good with some light scattered marks and minor age cracks. Overall length is 8-1/2". This is the only double barrel superposed pistol that the catalogers have seen.
