Lot 0735
Straight, single-fullered imported English blade. Marked "Warranted" on one side. Both sides decorated with large blued panels, with engraved and gilt decorated designs. The right side displays arms motifs and a liberty cap. The left side with a patriotic federal eagle, holding an "E. Pluribus/Unum" banner in its beak, and crossed American flags. Gilt brass hilt with five-ball counter guard and knuckle bow with ring mounted near large and early pillow pommel with capstan. Rectangular ivory grip with vertical gadrooning and ferrule at guard. Excellent condition, blade retains about 80-90% fire-blued finish and polish with some areas of darker spots. Blade also retains much of gilt decoration. Hilt retains generous traces of gilt finish, especially in protected areas. Exposed areas retain a nice, unpolished patina. Grip is excellent with a few hairline cracks from age. Remnants of leather washer between blade and guard. This is a fine example of an early American pillow pommel sword, in very nice condition, probably dates to about 1790.Blade Length: 32"Overall Length: 38"Paperwork: No
