Lot 1356
Round smoothbore steel barrel marked on left side , near breech, with an eagle head over "P" and "US" in an oval, as well as number "13" with part of number not legible. Rib mounted under barrel and fitted with a brass tipped wooden ramrod. Reconverted flintlock mechanism, tail marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1806" and center marked with large eagle over "US". Walnut half-stock with standard Model 1805 brass furniture, including buttcap with full stirrups . Good condition, all steel components were cleaned at some time and now retain a freckled grey patina. Brass retains a mellow patina. Stock good as refinished, with small sliver replaced beneath lock and a small chip, and a few scattered cracks from age. Specimens dated 1806 are extremely rare, as only a few are known. Only about 4,100 Model 1805 pistols were made between 1806 and 1808.
