The beautifully detailed and colored county map of the state of Oregon and the then territories of Washington, Idaho, and part of Montana, from the 1870 edition of Mitchell's popular New General Atlas of the world. The map is framed by the decorative vine motif border typical of Mitchell maps of the mid-1860s to 1881.
Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1790-1860) was an American geographer born in Connecticut. He worked as an educator before turning to publishing geography textbooks and maps.
