PIERRE LOTI MADAME CHRYSANTHEME WOODCUT EDITION: This book served as a source of Puccini’s opera Madam Butterfly. This book was released as a limited, numbered edition of 1230 total copies, this example, numbered 1143 is filled with original woodblock prints by A. Roubille being the scarcest with only 30 examples in the world released. In addition to this there were: 40 on Japon Imperial paper, 60 on Hollande van Gelder and 1100 on verge d’arches.

1st EDITION TITLE: Madame Chrysantheme. AUTHOR: Pierre Loti de la Academe Francaise. PUBLISHER: Paris: Collection Marpon & CirKegan Paul, Trench Trubner & Co., 1921. NOTES: Leather and marbled paper binding, spine with raised bands and gilded borders and lettering, marbled paste-down and endpapers, 7.5”h x 5”w x 75”d. Bookplate on the paste down for ‘Wehyer 1945’ and written dedication on frontispage ‘Merry Christmas to Ted from Peggy 1945’.
