43096: Frémont & Cochrane: Jugate Grand National Banne

Lot 43096 Details

Description
Frémont & Cochrane: Jugate Grand National Banner. Lavishly hand-colored small folio lithograph [10 1/2" x 14 1/2"] published by Currier & Ives titled "Grand Banner of the Radical Democracy, For 1864." This ticket was short-lived and withdrew early in the campaign, throwing their support to Lincoln. They were, in fact, Republicans, so it is somewhat puzzling why they are here called Radical Democrats. Two border tears and a minor stain in the lower left corner, as shown. Generally, a fine example of what we personally consider the most graphic of all "Grand National Banner" designs. The artists at Currier & Ives were hitting on all cylinders when they drew this one!
