An attractive seated bronze Ibis statuette, Late-Period-Ptolemaic Period, c. 664-30 BC, with large feet and defined wings, the long, curved beak reaching over the feet. The Ibis is sacred to the god Thoth and bronzes such as these commonly adorned coffins, mostly of wood, which held the mummies of the bird, H: 2 1/3 in (5.9cm), L: 3 3/5 in (9.1cm). Ex Pilar Muniz de Camahort, acquired in Cairo from R.M. Nahman in the 1950Â’s; thence descent. Pilar Muniz de Camhort was married to Ricardo Muniz y Verdugo Minister Counselor in the Spanish Embassy to King Farouk and later President Nasser.
