Some facsimile signatures include: Abraham Lincoln, Louisa May Alcott, Lord Alfred Tennyson, Rutherford B. Hays, Bayard Taylor, R.W. Emerson, Samuel Woodworth, John Greenleaf Whittier, Edgar Allen Poe, Henry W. Longfellow and William Makepeace Thackary, together with several authentic autographs of somewhat less notable figures from the pioneering and first families from Washington and Iowa (Cedar Falls, Webster City, Elgin), most inclusing poems in their entries, such as: “May Love's spirit ever guide thee through a calm and happy life - Till some kindred soul beside thee claim a truthful loving wife” Highland Clayton Co, Iowa Dec. 1880 J. C. Miller, also “As time rolls on and unfolds the pages of life my sincere hope is: That each one may be bright and beautiful, sending out the rays to gladden others hearts and most of all those of home” and “Man’s love is like Scotch snuff, Take a pinch and that’s enough” Also including an entry on Morse code (1881).
