Burroughs, William S. The Place of Dead Roads

Lot 0021
  • Burroughs, William S.
  • The Place of Dead Roads
  • Hardcover. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1983. 1st Edition. Fine / Dust Jacket Included.
  • First edition, first printing. Signed by Burroughs on the title page. Publisher's brown cloth, lettered in copper and blind; in the original pictorial dust jacket designed by Robert Reed. A fine copy; in a fine, unclipped dust jacket. The Place of Dead Roads is a novel about time travel, gunslingers in the American West, and the fight for galactic freedom. Unlike the majority of his works, Burroughs wrote this novel in the traditional manner and without using his famous "cut-up method" in which he sliced up paragraphs to combine unrelated words and phrases to create a new text. The second volume in a series known collectively as The Red Night Trilogy, The Place of Dead Roads is preceded by Cities of the Red Night (1981) and followed by The Western Lands (1987).
