Cummings, E. E.EIMIHard Cover. New York: Covici Friede, 1933. 1st Edition. Very Good.First edition, limited issue of 1381 copies. Signed by Cummings on the limitation page. Publisher's yellow cloth, yellowed in black. About near fine, with some light toning and spotting to the extremities, some minor fraying to the spine head, light spotting to the endpapers and page edges, otherwise clean interior. Overall, a very sturdy and presentable copy, signed by Cummings. EIMI is a prose travelogue based on Cummings' thirty-six day visit to the Soviet Union. Although the text is intended to be observational, Cummings' biases towards Communism shine through his prose; as the Encyclopaedia Britannica explains, "the excursion to the USSR confirmed [Cummings'] individualist repugnance for collectivism." Although a non-fiction travelogue, EIMI is infused with the same distinct syntax and sensitivity to language that makes Cummings' poetry so widely acclaimed. Indeed, EIMI is so eloquently written that it was often mistaken for a novel.
