Rare and highly decorative 'Bay of the West' Map of the Western Hemisphere. Published in Paris. Clouet was a member of the 'Academic Royale des Sciences de Rouen'. The insert Map shows the debate between the 'Bay of the West,' a more established view and the North Pacific Archipelago theory that had developed at the time. Map shows exploration of Cook, Magellan and others. Also recent Russian discoveries are shown. Hand colored, copperplate engraved.
