Large and fully hand-colored map from the very scarce 1875 Jones and Hamilton Historical Atlas of the World Illustrated. Colored by county. This is a quality map, lithographed on good paper. Depicted at a time when the Old West was in full swing. Shows Indian tribes, forts, railroads, springs, crossings, etc. This map was produced when Texas was still being settled—as evidence it highlights certain areas with legends such as, “Waters Brackish and Bitter,†and “Arable Lands with an abundance of Good Timber.†Map is displayed in an interesting projection. Inset of Western Part of Texas. Very light small spot in image (not in map area). Couple small marks in lower margin. 12.25 x 17 inches.
