An interesting Roman lamp with seated male figure, 1st Century AD, holding an uncertain object, perhaps a tool or weapon. The volute nozzle with rounded tip, the inward sloping shoulder separated from the discus by an inward sloping molded rim. There is an antique collection note on side in black paint reading 'Cyprus 1058'. L: 3 5/8 in (9.2 cm). Well-preserved brown slip with scattered deposits. Ex collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
