First Edition Japanese Fairy Tale 1885Title: Shitakiri Suzume': The Tongue Cut SparrowDate: 1885Medium: Woodblock Print BookSize: 7.25" x 5"This single fairy tale children's book ‘The Tongue Cut Sparrow’ is written in English. It is on Japanese folded pages, 11 pages in all. It bears the publishers name 'Kobunsha' on the inside cover page. This is the first edition of this book in English. The colors are very good. This book is bound with a yamoto toji blue thread binding, which is still tight, and intact. There is some curling of pages and generalized wear from handling over the last 100+ years, but overall excellent condition. The cover page and publisher page are separated at the fold, but all others are as they were made. This book has normal timeworn wear, just light soiling as seen in the pix, but no heavy staining or tears, except for the aforementioned page fold separation. It measures 7.25" high x 5" wide. Japanese Fairy Tale books are pretty scarce, and this one was much loved and cared for.
