A wonderfully ornate sheet from Volume Six of Chatelain's Atlas Historique. The text in the center of the sheet describes "the Algerians, their Maritime Power, and Tunis and Gigery, etc." Surrounding the text are three main views of Algiers, one view each of Tunis, Tripoli, and Gigery (today's Jijel in northeastern Algeria), and six smaller images depicting the peoples and customs (mainly funerary) of the region. Each image is set in an elaborate frame.
