A Greek black-ware kylix, Magnia Graecia, c. 4th Century BC, with a lovely metallic sheen, D: 3 4/5 in (9.6cm), H: 2 1/8 in (5.5cm). The silver-grey glaze is offset by excellent detailing of the bowl. The inside of the cup is finished by an impressed design of notches and lines surrounding three petal impressed circles. Along the walls of the interior and reaching almost to the lip of the cup is an impasto glaze pattern taking the form of off white vines and leaves and red-orange berries. Very rare and impressive. Ex Southern California private collection.
