Near East, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A beautiful wool Beluch (also Baluch or Belouch) carpet presenting a mesmerizing design in hues of brown, blue, red, orange, and white, fringed on the two longer sides and wrapped on the two shorter sides. Expertly woven with an intricate composition, there are nineteen encircled eight-pointed stars surrounding an interior square section, with four crown-and-flag designs separated by four brown-and-white lines, all of which are flanking the sides of a white central eight-pointed star. A peripheral border of repeating linear, curvilinear, and diamond-shaped motifs encircles the outer border of the rug, and provides a lovely light-colored contrast to the generally earthtone rug. Size: 31.75" W x 26.75" H (80.6 cm x 67.9 cm).
